Abstract In designing a bolted joint consisting of dissimilar hollow cylinders, the load factor (the ratio an increment in axial bolt force to external tensile load) is important. However, no researches on characteristics joints members have been conducted. this paper, effects application positions, b/a outside diameter inside Young's modulus between cylinders factor, and when interface separation starts are examined using finite element method (FEM) calculations. As result, it found that values decrease as increases, position approaches interfaces, while value independent preload. For verification FEM calculations, experiments measure interfaces start separate were carried out. The results fairly coincident with experimental results. It less than 0.15 for steel aluminum joints, 0.1 0.2 where material study. Finally, obtained new design demonstrated determining nominal bolt, strength grade, target tightening torque, Additionally, procedure, issue if washer should be inserted or not discussed well determination
